Leading the charge in funding, the eGrocery sector raised an impressive $1.5 billion, significantly bolstered by the success of Zepto and a resurgence in China's market, which contributed over $300 million.
Overall, the Asia-Pacific agrifoodtech ecosystem has raised approximately $4.2 billion in 2024, reflecting a substantial 38% increase compared to the previous year.
India has emerged as the frontrunner in the APAC region for agrifoodtech funding, securing $2 billion, largely due to the eGrocer Zepto's impressive $1 billion raised in two late-stage deals.
Chinese agrifoodtech startups also saw an 18% increase in funding year-over-year, securing capital across 230 deals, although they have dropped to second place in the region.
Japan's agrifoodtech sector made significant strides, climbing three positions to third place with a 58% year-over-year increase in funding.
Midstream Technologies experienced a remarkable 88% year-over-year increase in funding, totaling $578 million so far in 2024.
In contrast, the Bioenergy and Biomaterials sector attracted $475 million, indicating a 46% decline in funding compared to the previous year, suggesting a shift in investor interest.
Late-stage funding rounds have recorded a significant 133% increase, with 44 deals compared to just 17 in the same period last year.
Seed stage investments have also shown resilience, raising 13% more funding year-over-year despite fewer deals, while Series A rounds saw a 52% increase in capital across 90% more deals.
