A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that the diversion was prompted by a 'suspected bomb threat,' leading to a swift response from military aircraft.

Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, and fire trucks were present on the runway as part of a full-scale security incident response.

The evacuation of the aircraft was underway at the time of reporting, with specialists scheduled to examine the plane afterwards.

After passengers exited the aircraft, authorities conducted checks for explosive materials, although the results of these searches have not yet been disclosed.

Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident to assess the credibility of the threat.

American Airlines chose Rome for the emergency landing due to the availability of ground personnel capable of managing the situation and assisting passengers.
