Castro's mansion in Hollywood Hills, valued at $25.5 million, was also placed under evacuation orders due to the proximity of the Sunset fire.
The wildfires have led to the evacuation of over 180,000 residents, with about 100,000 still unable to return home due to ongoing evacuation orders.
Among the properties lost in this disaster was Castro's Malibu mansion, valued at $3.85 million, which was completely destroyed, leaving only charred foundations.
His $3.98 million residence in Altadena was threatened by the Eaton fire but ultimately remained unharmed, along with the gas station where he purchased his winning lottery ticket.
Tragically, at least 24 fatalities have been reported as a result of the fires, including eight in Pacific Palisades and sixteen in the Eaton fire area.
Edwin Castro, who made headlines as the record Powerball winner of $2.04 billion in 2022, has suffered significant losses due to recent wildfires in California.
As of mid-January 2025, the Palisades fire has devastated nearly 96 square kilometers, destroying around 12,000 structures and leaving the area only 14% contained.
The Malibu home, purchased through an LLC, was part of a broader pattern of destruction in the area, indicating widespread damage from the fires.
While Castro's Malibu mansion was lost, his other properties in Hollywood Hills and Altadena have so far been spared, although they remain at risk from nearby fires.
Concerns about looting have emerged in the affected areas, resulting in several arrests, including one individual impersonating a firefighter.
The National Weather Service has issued warnings of strong winds reaching up to 110 kilometers per hour, which could further exacerbate the fire's spread.
Since the onset of the fires on January 7, 2025, thousands of firefighters have been working tirelessly under extreme conditions to combat the flames.
