Ex-CIA Specialist Indicted for Spying for South Korea, Admits Passing Info to Intelligence Service
July 17, 2024Sue Mi Terry, a former CIA and NSC foreign policy specialist, has been indicted for allegedly acting as a spy for the South Korean government.
She is accused of accepting luxury goods and money in exchange for advocating South Korean government positions, sharing nonpublic information, and providing access to U.S. government officials.
Terry admitted to passing information from a meeting with Secretary of State Blinken to South Korean intelligence.
Prosecutors claim she never registered as a foreign agent and did not disclose her covert work with South Korea while testifying before Congress.
Despite denying the charges, Terry admitted to being a 'source' for South Korea's National Intelligence Service and resigned from the CIA.
The investigation also involves another former CIA employee, and South Korea's National Intelligence Service is cooperating with US authorities on the case.
Terry faces two counts of failing to register as a foreign agent and conspiracy to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
The Council on Foreign Relations has placed her on unpaid leave and removed her biography from its website.
