Ex-Con Charged with Murder in Brooklyn Stabbing; Neighbor and Pit Bull Victims in Violent Attack
July 1, 2024Anthony Sabato, a 37-year-old ex-convict with 17 prior arrests, has been charged with multiple crimes including murder, robbery, possession of stolen property, possession of a weapon, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
Sabato fatally stabbed his neighbor, Thomas Machalchick, in a supportive housing building in Downtown Brooklyn.
Before the stabbing, Sabato demanded Machalchick's phone and property and also injured Machalchick's pit bull.
Surveillance footage captured Sabato fleeing into his apartment with a knife, where he was later found with the victim's bag.
Sabato has confessed to the stabbing in a videotaped statement and is currently being held without bail.
His parole expired in April 2021, and he is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday.
