Following her arrest, Alexander told police she had left the boys unattended in the bath while she smoked cannabis, which was found in their systems during post-mortem examinations.

On February 21, 2025, Kingston Crown Court found her guilty of two counts of murder after a trial that revealed the children could not have accidentally drowned.

Selvin Thomas, the boys' father, discovered their bodies on the lower bunk and screamed in horror upon realizing what had happened.

The murders took place in the family bath, with Alexander initially claiming she fell asleep while the children were bathing.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Waller, who led the investigation, emphasized the emotional toll on the boys' father and first responders.

Emergency services confirmed the boys had been dead for several hours when they arrived at the scene, while Alexander fled the house.

The court revealed that Alexander had been in contact with drug dealers prior to the incident, indicating her continued drug use.

Kara Alexander, 47, was found guilty of murdering her two sons, Elijah Thomas, aged 2, and Marley Thomas, aged 5, in their home in Dagenham, east London, in December 2022.

After the discovery, Selvin called emergency services and informed them that Alexander had killed their children as she attempted to flee the scene.

Post-mortem examinations indicated that the boys died from drowning or suffocation, contradicting Alexander's account of their deaths.
