October 31, 2024Alexandru Radu Popescu, a photographer who immigrated to the UK as a construction worker, showcased his work at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London on October 22, 2024.
The exhibition, titled 'Beyond Limits: A Celebration of Paralympic Excellence,' features striking photographs of British and Romanian Paralympians, highlighting their irises alongside half of their faces.
Popescu's artistic initiative, Beyond Limits, began in 2020 and focuses on expressive portraits that capture the individuality and inner strength of Paralympians.
His journey from construction worker to photographer has included several exhibitions in both Romania and the UK, and he has photographed notable events like London Fashion Week.
The exhibition was held in collaboration with the British and Romanian Paralympic Committees and was attended by five Paralympic champions from each nation, along with Romania's ambassador to the UK, Laura Popescu.
Popescu has received recognition in the photography field, including accolades from 35AWARDS in drone photography in 2021 and being listed among the Top 70 photographers in the UK in 2024.
He studied photography at the London College of Contemporary Arts and Morley College and is a member of the Royal Photographic Society and the Association of Photographers.
Using a unique Japanese prototype lens, Popescu creates images that celebrate the subjects' worth beyond their physical achievements.
