An inspiring 10-year-old girl named Ruby Sheffield launched the 2024 Poppy Appeal at HMS President near London’s Tower Bridge, aiming to raise £50 million for veterans and their families.

Ruby stated that the RBL provides essential support for ex-serving personnel dealing with the pressures of military service.

The launch event featured a mindfulness session at St Katharine Docks Marina and a breakfast club at HMS President, emphasizing community involvement.

Another veteran, Tony Routledge, credited the RBL with saving his life during a mental health crisis after being injured in Iraq.

Ruby, who has been supporting the Royal British Legion (RBL) since she was four, was motivated by her father, Dan, a veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Dan expressed immense pride in Ruby's efforts, emphasizing the importance of caring for servicemen and women from such a young age.

Since becoming an official poppy seller two years ago, Ruby has raised over £6,237 through various fundraising activities.

Her fundraising efforts include collecting glasses at a local pub and selling poppy cards and coasters in shopping centers.

At the launch event, veteran Baz Seymour shared his experience with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and highlighted the need to break the stigma surrounding mental health.

Founded in 1921, the Poppy Appeal not only raises funds but also seeks to raise awareness of the mental health challenges faced by veterans.

This year's Poppy Appeal aims to raise £51.3 million to provide comprehensive support for the armed forces community, including financial, employment, housing, and mental health assistance.
