UK Students Brace for A-Level Results Day on August 15, Clearing Process Opens for University Placements
August 15, 2024Students in England, Northern Ireland, and Wales will receive their A-level results on August 15, 2024, while GCSE results will follow on August 22.
A-Level results day is a pivotal moment for students, as they hope to meet the grades required for their conditional university offers.
On results day, UCAS will open at 8am, allowing students to access their applications and begin the Clearing process if necessary.
The Clearing process enables students who do not meet their offers or exceed their predicted grades to find available university courses.
This year's Clearing system will remain open until October 21, providing students with additional options for university placements.
Many UK universities, including a majority of Russell Group institutions, will have courses available through Clearing.
UCAS encourages students to view the Clearing process positively, emphasizing that starting university this way is not a negative experience.
In 2023, 27.2% of UK A-level entries achieved an A or above, a decrease from the previous year but still higher than pre-pandemic levels.
Ofqual anticipates that this summer's A-level results will be broadly similar to last year's, reflecting a return to pre-Covid grading standards.
The results day follows the Labour government's decision to abandon former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's plan to eliminate A-levels.
Students dissatisfied with their results can appeal through their school or college, which will liaise with the exam board for a review.
