A tragic house fire in Huddersfield has resulted in the deaths of a 31-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl, while a ten-year-old girl remains in critical condition.

The incident occurred early in the morning on July 31, 2024, at approximately 2:24 AM on Leeds Road, with emergency services alerted shortly before.

Firefighters from four stations responded to the blaze, managing to rescue the victims who were subsequently taken to the hospital.

The woman succumbed to her injuries later that day, while the two girls are still receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries.

West Yorkshire Police are treating the fire as suspicious and have established a crime scene at the property, although they are not currently seeking additional suspects.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the vicinity during the early morning hours to come forward with information.

A neighbor reported seeing emergency services performing CPR on the victims shortly after the fire was reported.

The house suffered significant damage, with the roof largely destroyed and walls charred black.

Forensic teams are conducting investigations at the scene, and there is a palpable sense of shock among local residents.

Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle expressed condolences to the affected families and mentioned that specially trained officers are providing support.
