Shaina Taub, a two-time Tony Award winner, is set to receive the Founders' Award at the 2025 Educational Theatre Association's Theatre Education Conference.
The Founders' Award honors artists whose contributions have significantly impacted theatre education, research, and practice.
Dr. Jennifer Katona, Executive Director of EdTA, commended Taub for her artistry, advocacy, and commitment to inclusive and transformative theatre for young audiences.
Taub is celebrated for her original musical 'Suffs,' for which she was the star and sole writer, winning Tony Awards in 2024 for Best Book and Best Score.
The musical 'Suffs' premiered off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2022 and successfully transferred to Broadway in April 2024.
In addition to her work on 'Suffs,' Taub collaborated with Elton John to write lyrics for the musical adaptation of 'The Devil Wears Prada,' which had a successful run in Chicago and is set for a new production in London's West End.
The Theatre Education Conference will offer workshops, mentorship, and networking opportunities aimed at professional development and community building for theatre educators.
Scheduled for June 22-24, 2025, the conference will take place at Indiana University Bloomington, coinciding with EdTA's International Thespian Festival.
Registration fees for the conference start at $299, and interested attendees can register at TEC.SchoolTheatre.org.
Taub has also showcased her talent in notable Off-Broadway productions, including 'Hadestown' and 'Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.'
With a diverse background in theater, Taub has appeared in and composed music for various productions, including adaptations of Shakespeare plays.
