Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) has unveiled its casting for the upcoming 2024-25 off-Broadway season, which includes two new plays: 'We Had a World' and 'Dakar 2000.'

This poignant play revolves around a dying woman's request to her grandson to write a bitter and vitriolic play about their family, delving into themes of family conflict and love.

Additionally, MTC will produce Stephen Sondheim's 'Old Friends' in collaboration with CMI and Daryl Roth, featuring renowned performers Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga.

The play 'Dakar 2000' is scheduled to open on February 4, 2025, with its official premiere on February 27, 2025.

The world premiere of 'We Had a World,' written by Joshua Harmon and directed by Trip Cullman, features a cast that includes Andrew Barth Feldman, Joanna Gleason, and Jeanine Serralles, with previews starting on February 25, 2025, and an official opening on March 19, 2025.

Starring Abubakr Ali and Mia Barron, 'Dakar 2000' explores hidden secrets and the complexities of human relationships.

In contrast, 'Dakar 2000,' written by Pulitzer finalist Rajiv Joseph and directed by May Adrales, is set in Senegal on the eve of Y2K and tells the story of a Peace Corps volunteer who forms an unexpected bond with a State Department operative.

This announcement marks MTC's first production at NY City Center Stage II since the pandemic shutdown, signaling a significant return to the stage.

Trip Cullman's direction of 'We Had a World' is anticipated, especially given Harmon's previous acclaim for 'Prayer for the French Republic,' which was nominated for a Tony Award.

MTC's Broadway season will also showcase the comedy 'Eureka Day' alongside the Sondheim revue 'Old Friends,' further enriching its lineup.

The season will also include premieres such as 'The Hills of California' by Jez Butterworth, directed by Sam Mendes.

Tickets for 'Dakar 2000' are currently available for purchase, while tickets for 'We Had a World' will go on sale starting December 9, 2024.
