The decision to host the opera in Greater Manchester was influenced by substantial public investment in the Aviva Studios, which will serve as the venue.

Phelim McDermott, known for his acclaimed direction of previous ENO productions of Glass's works, will direct this ambitious opera.

Originally performed in 1976, 'Einstein on the Beach' is a groundbreaking five-hour opera that has garnered both acclaim and confusion from audiences over the years.

As part of its collaboration with Greater Manchester, ENO plans to implement a community engagement initiative called Perfect Pitch, which will explore the connections between opera and football.

This production is part of ENO's broader strategy to establish a lasting presence in Greater Manchester by 2029, which includes launching a youth opera company and partnering with local football teams.

In addition to 'Einstein on the Beach', ENO will present a concert version of Mozart's 'Così fan Tutte' at Bridgewater Hall in February 2026, following the staging of 'Albert Herring' in 2025.
