Truecaller has launched a major update for iPhone users, introducing real-time caller ID and automated spam call blocking features that were previously only available on Android.

The rollout of these new features began on January 22, 2025, with the caller ID feature expected to reach users worldwide in the coming days.

Truecaller currently boasts over 2.6 million paying subscribers, with a significant portion of its revenue—40%—coming from iOS users.

The app also allows users to search through previously identified calls, maintaining a history of up to 2,000 numbers.

While beta testing indicated that the real-time caller ID feature generally performs well, it may occasionally miss calls due to processing delays.

This update marks a significant improvement over the previous CallKit Call Directory framework, enhancing the app's accuracy and coverage.

The update is part of Truecaller’s strategy to strengthen its position in markets with high iOS penetration and to increase subscription revenues.

In India, the rollout of Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) by local telecoms could pose competition to Truecaller as it aims to combat spam calls.

This real-time caller ID feature is designed to help users identify unknown callers, thereby reducing the number of spam and robocalls.

The automated spam blocking feature is now available globally, enhancing the app's functionality for users.

Truecaller employs homomorphic encryption to ensure caller data is processed securely, with decryption happening on the client side for privacy.

Fredrik Kjell, COO of Truecaller, highlighted that iOS users have a conversion rate to premium subscriptions that is five times higher than that of Android users.
