Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, stressed the urgent need to pressure Russia to accept a ceasefire, especially since Ukraine agreed to an unconditional ceasefire over a month ago.

She emphasized that continued pressure on Russia is essential for it to agree to the proposed conditions for a potential ceasefire.

Her comments came in the wake of a recent Russian attack on Sumi, Ukraine, which tragically resulted in 34 deaths and left over a hundred people injured.

As the EU's chief diplomat, Kallas has made it a priority to strengthen support for Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion, advocating for increased assistance beyond the proposed €23 billion for this year.

Kallas noted that while two-thirds of the initiative to acquire artillery ammunition for Ukraine is already underway, additional support is still required.

She believes that the current proposed support of €23 billion for Ukraine should be exceeded to effectively address the ongoing crisis.

Kallas made these remarks during a ministerial meeting in Luxembourg, where she highlighted Ukraine's ongoing wait for Moscow's decision on the ceasefire terms.
