Tribute in Light Returns for 23rd Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks
September 5, 2024Families of 9/11 victims will gather at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in Lower Manhattan for a solemn remembrance of the tragic events from 2001.
Various events are planned to honor both the victims of the attacks and the first responders who acted heroically during the crisis.
During the ceremony, the names of all 2,983 victims from the September 11 attacks, along with six victims from the 1993 bombing, will be read aloud until approximately 12:30 p.m.
As dusk falls on September 11, the Tribute in Light will illuminate the Manhattan skyline, symbolizing the fallen Twin Towers.
On September 11, 2024, the Tribute in Light will return, commemorating the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
The memorial ceremony will commence at 8:46 a.m. with a citywide moment of silence to mark the time when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the north tower.
St. Ann’s Annual Interfaith Service will provide a space for locals to pray and reflect on the day while overlooking the Manhattan skyline.
The twin beams of light will be visible from the 9/11 Memorial Plaza and will shine until dawn on September 12.
The American Veterans Memorial Pier will host a remembrance event featuring speeches from law enforcement and elected officials.
Additional landmarks across New York City, including One World Trade Center and the Empire State Building, will participate in the tribute by lighting up in sky blue.
On September 10, the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance will hold a candlelighting ceremony for family members and friends of those lost on 9/11.
