A controlled explosion during a film set stunt in Silvertown, near the O2 arena, spiraled out of control on Saturday evening, resulting in a significant fire.

The London Fire Brigade received reports of the blaze shortly before 8 PM and dispatched four fire engines and 25 firefighters to the scene.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple loud bangs and seeing flames and thick black smoke billowing into the air, prompting initial fears of an explosion.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were aware of the planned filming and the use of explosives, but acknowledged that communication about the event was inadequate.

Local residents expressed panic and confusion, mistaking the loud explosions for a bomb or earthquake, and raised concerns over the lack of prior notification.

The fire destroyed a van and caused significant damage to a car and a lorry, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Newham Council is currently investigating the incident in collaboration with the film company and other authorities to determine what went wrong.

The explosion was reportedly orchestrated by Jacky Jhaj, a convicted paedophile, who was filming a scene involving gun powder and a detonation cord.

Despite initial reports linking a BBC truck to the incident, the BBC denied any involvement, clarifying that they were not filming at the time.

Onlookers praised the swift response of the London Fire Brigade and emergency services, who worked quickly to control the situation.

This incident follows a recent large fire in Dagenham, raising ongoing concerns about fire safety in the area.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich Council had previously warned locals about a loud explosion scheduled for a different day, contributing to the confusion.
