August 22, 2024Netflix's live-action adaptation of 'One Piece' is gearing up for its second season, which is currently in production in South Africa.
Creator Eiichiro Oda has confirmed that production is well underway, with the season expected to premiere next year.
The writing team for Season 2 includes co-showrunners Matt Owens and Joe Tracz, who are also serving as executive producers.
Following the success of the first season, which premiered on August 31, 2023, the new season will adapt several arcs from the Arabasta Saga.
Specifically, Season 2 will cover five arcs: Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island.
The introduction of Dr. Kureha, a significant character who serves as Tony Tony Chopper's mentor, has generated excitement among fans.
Katey Sagal has been cast as Dr. Kureha, while Mark Harelik will portray Dr. Hiriluk, Chopper's adoptive father.
Additionally, Sendhil Ramamurthy will join the cast as Nefertari Cobra, a character known for his wisdom and dedication.
New characters will be introduced, including Marine Captain Smoker and members of Baroque Works, while some original characters' returns remain uncertain.
The season will not cover the Alabasta arc in its entirety, which means brief appearances by King Cobra.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the new season, looking forward to the expanded storyline and the introduction of new characters.
Produced by Tomorrow Studios in partnership with Shueisha and Netflix, the series aims to capture the essence of the original manga while adapting it for live-action.
