Brad Caleb Kane has been appointed as the new showrunner, creator, and executive producer for the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, which is set to premiere on Peacock.

Kane takes over from Bryan Fuller, who departed the project three months ago due to creative differences with A24.

This series marks A24's first major project aimed at a broader commercial audience, as they seek to expand their portfolio.

The narrative will focus on events following the drowning of young Jason Voorhees, leading to his mother Pamela's quest for revenge against the camp counselors.

The Friday the 13th franchise has produced 12 films, significantly influencing the slasher horror genre since the original film's release in 1980.

Crystal Lake is the first new project related to the franchise since the 2009 film reboot, reigniting interest in the long-standing horror series.
