Alice Springs residents will be under a three-night curfew from 10pm to 6am due to a series of violent assaults.

The curfew, implemented by Northern Territory police, is a response to incidents including an 80-person brawl and a knife attack.

This emergency measure follows crimes such as a service station robbery and assaults on officers during the weekend.

New laws authorize the police commissioner to impose curfews for up to seven days with the police minister's approval.

The curfew applies to all individuals in specified areas but will not disrupt Naidoc week celebrations.

There are no current plans to extend the curfew beyond the initial three days.

Residents are encouraged to provide information on the incidents, with exceptions made for those with legitimate reasons or seeking safety during the curfew.
