A 17-year-old student from Uxbridge College drowned at West Wittering beach in West Sussex during a school trip.

Despite being airlifted to the hospital, the student did not survive.

The school is offering support to those affected by the incident.

Sussex Police and the Health and Safety Executive are conducting an investigation named Operation Redhill.

Emergency services, including lifeguards and HM Coastguard, responded swiftly to the incident.

West Wittering Estate extended condolences and urged the community to provide any relevant information.
