German General Prosecutor Jens Rommel, in collaboration with Swedish authorities and EU agencies, arrested eight individuals for crimes against humanity and war crimes in Syria from 2012-2014.

Among those arrested is Wael S., a suspected war criminal from Syria, apprehended at an asylum center in Horst, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Wael S. is accused of committing crimes against humanity, torture, and war crimes as a member of a militia supporting the Assad regime during the Syrian civil war.

Four other individuals were arrested in Germany for their alleged involvement with the Free Palestine Movement armed militia and participation in violent crackdowns on peaceful protests, leading to deaths and injuries.

The arrests were facilitated by Germany's universal jurisdiction laws, with coordinated efforts between German and Swedish authorities in a joint investigation.

The detained individuals, including Wael S., will face pre-trial detention and further legal proceedings in Germany, with Wael S. being presented to the Federal Court of Justice for a decision on pre-trial detention.
