A coalition of unions representing Hollywood crew members has successfully reached tentative contract agreements with major studios, marking the end of a turbulent period of labor activity.

The Teamsters Local 399 announced this tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) late on July 27, 2023, just days before the existing contracts were set to expire.

The new contracts encompass a range of terms addressing pay, pension, health benefits, streaming residuals, artificial intelligence, and autonomous vehicles.

The Teamsters and Hollywood Basic Crafts unions, which represent approximately 8,000 workers including drivers and electricians, have secured a tentative agreement that reflects their demands.

Among the key victories, IATSE secured a 7% wage increase in the first year and protections against the use of artificial intelligence.

Union leaders emphasized their commitment to achieving a fair deal without making concessions, despite facing intimidation during negotiations.

The agreement was reached after intense negotiations that heightened tensions between executives and labor leaders, contrasting with the earlier, less contentious IATSE contract campaign.

Details of the tentative agreement are currently being withheld, with more information expected to be shared following a General Membership Meeting.

The unions had been advocating for a double-digit wage increase and protections against subcontracting and driverless trucks, which were significant points of contention.

Despite the resolution, the Hollywood labor landscape remains volatile, particularly with recent strikes by SAG-AFTRA affecting video game actors.

This agreement is expected to ensure at least two years of stability in Hollywood following the writers and actors strikes of the previous year.

The tentative agreement must still be sent to Local 399 members and other Hollywood crafts for ratification, although no timeline has been provided for this process.
