July 1, 2024Samsung Research Institute in India, in collaboration with academic partners, expanded Galaxy AI's language support to 16 languages and dialects, including Hindi, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian.
The R&D center in Bengaluru concentrated on developing the Hindi model, tackling regional dialects, tonal inflections, punctuation, and colloquialisms.
Nearly a million lines of audio data were collected with the help of linguists and universities to train the language model.
Samsung plans to add Swedish, Dutch, Romanian, and Turkish languages by the end of the year, emphasizing rigorous evaluation for accuracy and effectiveness.
Global collaboration is enhancing Samsung's AI for different linguistic environments, including British, Australian, and other English variations.
The language model expansion to include Arabic, Swahili, Portuguese, and more aims to improve user experience and promote global integration.
Samsung continues to address challenges around accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and ethical practices in AI model development.
Despite the benefits for non-English speakers, managing data privacy, linguistic biases, and the need for continuous updates remains essential.
