The Art Gallery of NSW will host a groundbreaking exhibition this summer featuring over 100 works by Belgian surrealist René Magritte.

This marks the first dedicated Magritte retrospective in Australia and coincides with surrealism's centenary.

The exhibition is part of the Sydney International Art Series 2024-25, supported by the NSW government.

Alongside Magritte, the gallery will feature the first Australian retrospective of Chinese cyber-futurist artist Cao Fei.

The series will also include a survey of works by Ethiopian-American artist Julie Mehretu at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia.

The Sydney International Art Series will run from October to April, bringing a diverse range of influential artists to the city.
