A 42-year-old man from Maddington, Perth, has been arrested for allegedly plotting to kill his ex-father-in-law in India.

The victim was attacked with a machete and shot in the head, resulting in a serious brain injury.

Charges include breaching a Family Violence Restraining Order, attempted murder, and involvement in a transnational conspiracy to murder.

The 65-year-old victim relocated to Western Australia for recovery, leading to a local police investigation.

Indian authorities are not seeking the man's extradition.

Three men in Punjab have also been arrested and charged in connection with the attack.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
