Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles raised concerns about dangerous military incidents involving China during a meeting with Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun at the Shangri-La Dialogue.

Incidents included a Chinese jet forcing an Australian navy helicopter to take evasive action and a ship using sonar pulses against naval divers.

Marles justified the timing of the discussion, noting that concerns were previously communicated through diplomatic channels.

The conversation was described as 'frank' and included various topics, with Marles urging China to pressure Russia to end its attack on Ukraine for global peace.

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin also stressed the importance of dialogue with China and reassured that war with Beijing was not imminent.

The summit addressed Russia's actions in Ukraine and called for support for a peace summit, highlighting the impact of global conflicts on international relationships.
