Weight Loss Drugs Linked to Stomach Paralysis and Severe GI Issues, Studies Warn
May 28, 2024Recent studies have revealed a concerning link between popular weight loss and diabetes medications containing semaglutide, such as Ozempic and Wegovy, and an increased risk of developing stomach paralysis, also known as gastroparesis.
These medications, which mimic the hormone GLP-1, have been found to cause gastrointestinal side effects, leading to a higher risk of gastroparesis, cholecystitis, and drug-induced pancreatitis in patients.
Patients prescribed GLP-1 analogues have reported an increased incidence of nausea, vomiting, and GERD.
Research presented at a US conference underscores the importance of monitoring patients on these medications and conducting further research to better understand the potential risks associated with their use.
