Nile Taylor, a 49-year-old homeless man with a history of violence, was arrested for setting a subway rider on fire in Manhattan.

Taylor threw a cup of liquid at the victim, resulting in severe burns on a third of the victim's body.

This was the second incident this year where Taylor targeted subway riders with burning objects.

Taylor faces charges of assault, arson, and other crimes, with strong evidence against him including surveillance footage and his admission to the crimes.

The victim, Petrit Alijaj, shielded his fiancée and cousin from the flames.

Governor Kathy Hochul has responded to the recent increase in violent attacks in the subway system by deploying National Guard members and additional police officers to enhance security.
