Renowned Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof has escaped to Europe following a harsh sentence by the Iranian regime, including prison, flogging, a fine, and property confiscation.

Rasoulof's latest film, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, is scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, but his attendance remains uncertain due to his recent flight.

The Cannes Film Festival jury is headlined by notable figures such as Greta Gerwig and Ebru Ceylan, tasked with awarding the Palme d'Or on May 25th.

Quentin Dupieux's 'Le Deuxième Acte' will kick off the festival, which features anticipated premieres like 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' and 'Megalopolis'.
