Federal agencies are now mandated to appoint Chief AI Officers and form AI Governance Boards to oversee AI implementation and adherence to standards.

Efforts are being made to grow and improve the AI workforce through training and the planned hiring of 100 AI professionals by summer.

These moves build upon previous initiatives like the Administration's Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights and NIST's AI Risk Management Framework.

The policy is partly a reaction to incidents of AI misuse, such as creating fake videos of President Biden, and intends to prevent biased AI applications.

Agencies not complying with the new AI safeguards must stop using AI systems unless they can provide a compelling justification.
