Sydney Swans AFLW players Alexia Hamilton and Paige Sheppard have received two-match suspensions for cocaine purchase.

Both players pleaded guilty to drug possession and were given a 12-month conditional release order, avoiding criminal records.

The AFL sanctioned them for conduct detrimental to the sport's reputation and is reviewing its Illicit Drug Policy.

The players have apologized and acknowledged the negative impact of their actions on their team and the league.

Neither player tested positive for banned substances under the current Australian Football Anti-Doping Code.

The AFLW is expected to be included in the revised Illicit Drug Policy, which currently does not cover female players.
