A U.S. military helicopter crashed near the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas on March 8, 2024, resulting in three fatalities and one critical injury.

The deceased are identified as New York State Trooper John M. Grassia III, 30, New York National Guard helicopter pilot Casey Frankoski, 28, and Border Patrol Agent Chris Luna, 49.

The injured National Guard soldier, serving as the crew chief, is in critical condition with their name undisclosed.

The helicopter was part of a federal border security mission.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway.

The victims had distinguished service records, with Grassia enlisting in 2013, Frankoski in 2016 as a pilot, and Luna serving with Border Patrol since 2007.

Officials, including Governor Kathy Hochul, and the community have offered their condolences and support to the families and colleagues of the deceased.
