Mariah Thomas, a 26-year-old mother from Kansas City, Missouri, has been charged with a felony following the death of her 1-month-old daughter, who was found with burn wounds.

The infant was discovered in a car seat with thermal injuries, and a burned blanket was also found at the scene.

Authorities allege that Thomas placed the baby in an oven, leading to the fatal injuries.

Thomas faces a Class A felony charge, with potential sentences ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment.

A friend indicated that Thomas has a history of mental illness and had ceased medication during pregnancy, but maintained that Thomas loved her child and never intended harm.
