Mattel is facing a class action lawsuit due to a misprint on the packaging of its Wicked dolls, which mistakenly included a link to a pornographic website instead of the official film site.

In November, Mattel publicly apologized for the error, stating it was unintentional and assuring consumers that corrective actions were being taken.

Filed on December 3, 2024, in the Federal Court of the Central District of California, the lawsuit seeks damages exceeding $5 million and class certification.

The lawsuit argues that Mattel failed to ensure the appropriateness of its product and packaging, particularly since the dolls are marketed to children as young as four.

Despite the serious implications of directing children to inappropriate content, Mattel responded that the error does not affect the product's value or play experience.

Some buyers have attempted to resell the dolls with the erroneous packaging online for inflated prices, reaching up to $2,000.

Universal's chief marketing officer, Michael Moses, commented that the incident is unlikely to impact the film's ticket sales, which have already reached significant milestones.

The company has begun removing the dolls from retailers, including Target, but Ricketson claims that no refunds are being offered to those who already purchased the dolls.

Ricketson's attorney emphasized the importance of corporate responsibility in ensuring that all aspects of products marketed to children are safe and free from risks.

The issue arose on November 10, 2024, when consumers noticed the link erroneously directed to an adult site instead of WickedMovie.com.
