Hayley Dowell, a 38-year-old British woman, tragically died from an embolism following a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) in Turkey on October 3, 2023.

Her death is part of a troubling trend, as she is among six Britons reported to have died in Turkey in 2023 due to botched medical procedures, raising serious concerns about the safety of medical tourism in the country.

The UK Foreign Office has previously issued warnings about the risks associated with cosmetic surgery in Turkey, highlighting that six British citizens died there last year after undergoing medical procedures.

Both Neil and Hayley's mother, Ann, expressed concerns that she was not adequately informed about the risks of the surgeries, with Neil stating that she only consented to two of the three procedures performed.

After Hayley had already passed away, Neil was asked to sign a consent form, indicating serious lapses in the clinic's procedural practices.

UK health officials have issued warnings about the risks of cosmetic surgery abroad, despite clinics like BHT advertising themselves as top facilities for international patients.

A coroner's investigation is underway, with Coroner Nicholas Walker announcing a full inquest scheduled for January 2024 to examine the circumstances surrounding Hayley Dowell's death.

The investigation will look into the information Mrs. Dowell received prior to the surgery and the overall circumstances of her tragic death.

Dowell underwent multiple surgeries, including a BBL, tummy tuck, and liposuction, at the BHT Clinic in Istanbul, for which she paid over £7,000.

Concerns have been raised about the quality of care at the BHT Clinic, particularly as the operation was completed in just one hour and 45 minutes, significantly shorter than the expected six hours.

Neil Dowell, Hayley's husband, reported that the surgeon left the operation halfway through, leaving the anaesthetist to continue without proper oversight.

Despite the BHT Clinic's claims of providing advanced medical services and emphasizing patient safety, no representatives attended the hearing regarding Dowell's case.
