Inversion Space Secures $44M for Revolutionary Space Cargo Delivery Vehicle, 'Arc'
November 21, 2024Nabeel Hyatt of Spark Capital emphasized that the development of autonomous re-entry vehicles like Arc could significantly transform global logistics and delivery economics.
The development of Inversion's technology is part of a broader trend made possible by significant reductions in launch costs, making various orbital delivery concepts more feasible.
Fiaschetti indicated that the funding will allow the company to expand its workforce from 25 to approximately 70 employees and relocate to a new facility.
Inversion is designing small spacecraft that measure 4 feet by 8 feet, capable of storing cargo in space for up to five years.
Inversion Space, based in Los Angeles, has successfully raised $44 million in Series A funding, co-led by Spark Capital and Adjacent, with participation from Lockheed Martin Ventures, Kindred, and Y Combinator.
This latest funding round brings Inversion's total investment to $54 million, which includes a previous $10 million seed round in 2021.
The funding could enable near-instant delivery of essential supplies, including medicines and military cargo, to any location on Earth within one hour.
Other notable investors in this venture include Lockheed Martin Ventures, Kindred, and Y Combinator, showcasing strong industry support.
The capital will be utilized to develop 'Arc', Inversion's next-generation re-entry vehicle designed for on-demand cargo delivery from space.
CEO Justin Fiaschetti highlighted the urgency of immediate delivery in critical situations such as natural disasters, where timing and location are unpredictable.
In addition to cargo delivery, Inversion is exploring opportunities for data collection during reentry and in-space hardware testing for commercial and government clients.
Chris Moran from Lockheed Martin Ventures praised Inversion's innovative approach to revolutionizing goods transportation and delivery.
