Medialivre CEO Luis Santana has unveiled plans to launch a new 24/7 news channel, News Now, by the end of June.

The channel will cover both national and international news, with a special focus on European matters, presenting 15-minute newscasts.

News Now will feature national figures in active roles, moving beyond traditional commentary.

The media regulator ERC has given its approval to the new channel, which is an extension of Medialivre, the company that emerged from the buyout of Cofina Media.

Backers of the new channel include high-profile investors such as soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Santana highlights the channel's potential for attracting advertising investment, leveraging the credibility established by its predecessor, CMTV, and its distinctive approach to news broadcasting.
