Luka Doncic, the star guard for the Dallas Mavericks, is set to launch the Luka Doncic Foundation, aimed at promoting positive learning environments for children involved in basketball.

As part of its mission, the foundation will release a study on youth basketball in the U.S. and the Balkan region, highlighting a concerning trend where joy, creativity, and exploration are being diminished in the sport.

Demonstrating his commitment, Doncic is personally donating over $2.5 million to support the foundation's initiatives.

The foundation plans to collaborate with prominent organizations such as FIBA, the NBA, and Gatorade to develop pilot programs that address the findings from the study.

Guided by a Youth Sports Leadership Council that includes notable figures like Stephen Curry, Sabrina Ionescu, and Hall of Famers Pau Gasol and Dirk Nowitzki, the foundation aims to create safe environments for children to learn and enjoy sports.

Doncic emphasizes the importance of fun and growth in sports, aspiring to provide children worldwide with the same joyful experiences he had while playing basketball.

The foundation will officially launch on December 21, 2024, coinciding with World Basketball Day, and will host 750 children from the Dallas area at a Mavericks game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Stephen Curry has noted that Doncic's foundation aligns with his own initiatives focused on improving children's health and well-being through sports.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis praised Doncic's dedication to youth basketball and highlighted how the research will aid in promoting the sport globally.
