MLS Transfer Window Frenzy: Key Moves and Deals as Deadline Looms
April 18, 2025
With the MLS primary transfer window closing next week, clubs are ramping up their activity to finalize deals.
The trade market is heating up, with teams eager to secure players like New England's Noel Buck and Inter Miami's Julian Gressel before the deadline.
Gressel, who has yet to debut this season, is expected to be moved by Miami to create salary cap space.
In a recent move, the Portland Timbers acquired midfielder Omir Fernandez from the Colorado Rapids for $200,000 in General Allocation Money, plus potential add-ons.
Fernandez, 26, brings versatility to the attack, having played in all eight games for Colorado this season, though primarily as a substitute.
Meanwhile, the Houston Dynamo are close to signing forward Toyosi Olusanya from St. Mirren, who has been impressive with 12 goals this season in Scotland.
San Diego FC is also making moves, finalizing a loan deal with a purchase option for U.S. youth international defender Oscar Verhoeven, who has made nine first-team appearances for the San Jose Earthquakes.
In a notable signing, Charleston Battery is finalizing a deal to bring in Guatemala international forward Rubio Rubin, who has experience in Liga MX and with Real Salt Lake.
Rubin previously had a successful stint in the USL Championship, scoring five goals in just 270 minutes for San Diego Loyal in 2020, enhancing Charleston's attacking options.
Prior to this, Rubin had a productive season with the New York Red Bulls in 2023, netting six goals and providing three assists over nearly 1,700 minutes.
