Messi believes that the introduction of young foreign players is enhancing the competitiveness of Major League Soccer (MLS).

Former Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino echoed Messi's sentiments regarding roster restrictions after the team's elimination in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Messi pointed out that the league's designated player system and strict salary cap limit teams' ability to sign more foreign players, which he sees as a barrier to development.

He suggested that loosening current roster restrictions in MLS could lead to further improvement and growth of the league.

Messi emphasized the physicality of the league, noting that teams engage in dynamic matches, particularly in the final minutes.
