The Seattle Sounders are in advanced negotiations to sign English winger Ryan Kent as a replacement for midfielder Paul Arriola, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury earlier this month.

Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer has emphasized the need for an impactful player to fill Arriola's role, while general manager Craig Waibel is focused on acquiring players who can contribute immediately.

This move comes amid significant injury challenges for the Sounders, with key players like Jordan Morris and Pedro de La Vega also sidelined.

Kent, 28, has been without a club for five months after a fallout with Fenerbahçe's coach, and he has not seen significant playtime since 2024.

Before his time at Fenerbahçe, Kent had a successful stint at Rangers F.C., where he made 218 appearances and scored 33 goals, contributing to the team's Scottish Premiership title in 2021.

His notable performance during the 2021-2022 season included ten goals and nine assists in the Scottish Premier League.

Manager Brian Schmetzer confirmed that Kent is currently in Seattle and could join the team soon, although the deal has not yet been officially announced.

Arriola, who was acquired by the Sounders in January 2025, underwent successful surgery on March 24 and has been placed on the season-ending injury list, allowing the team to free up salary cap space.

As the Sounders prepare for their upcoming match against San Jose on March 30, they expect to welcome back Obed Vargas and Nouhou from international duty.

In a related note, former Sounders captain Nico Lodeiro received a warm welcome during his return to Seattle after signing with Houston Dynamo in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Houston Dynamo have signed Colombian center back Pablo Ortiz on loan from FC DAC 1904 Dunajská, filling a gap in their defense.
