New England Revolution Secure Veteran Goalkeeper Alex Bono in Free Agency
December 21, 2024The New England Revolution have signed goalkeeper Alex Bono in free agency, as announced on December 20, 2024.
Bono, a 30-year-old from Syracuse, N.Y., is under contract with the Revolution through 2026, entering his 11th MLS season with 169 regular season appearances and 33 shutouts.
He previously played for D.C. United for the last two seasons, achieving seven clean sheets in 39 appearances and setting a career high with 29 starts last season.
Before his time at D.C. United, Bono had a successful eight-year tenure with Toronto FC, where he was instrumental in their historic treble-winning season in 2017.
During that 2017 playoff run, Bono achieved three shutouts and an impressive 88.3 save percentage, including a clean sheet in the MLS Cup final against Seattle Sounders FC.
Bono has also made one appearance for the U.S. Men's National Team and previously played for the New England Revolution Reserves as an amateur in 2012.
A standout collegiate player at Syracuse University, Bono earned All-American honors and set records for goals-against average and shutouts.
Head Coach Caleb Porter emphasized Bono's reliability and potential impact on team standards as the Revolution prepares for the upcoming season.
