Diego Luna has been named the 2024 MLS Young Player of the Year, a recognition of his outstanding performance with Real Salt Lake this season.

The award is determined by votes from MLS club technical staff, media, and current players, with Luna receiving 35.66% of the total votes, outpacing finalists Diego Gomez and Cristian Olivera.

At just 21 years old, Luna becomes the third American to win this award and is a product of the MLS NEXT program, highlighting his development within the league's youth system.

Luna's impressive season included 20 goal contributions, consisting of 8 goals and 12 assists, making him the second-highest contributor for Real Salt Lake, which achieved a club-record 59 points in the Western Conference.

He is also only the second player in MLS history to record at least 20 goal contributions in a season before turning 21, following Diego Rossi's achievement in 2018.

The Young Player of the Year award is specifically for players aged 22 and under, particularly those born on or after January 1, 2002.

Luna's contributions were pivotal in helping Real Salt Lake qualify for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup, further underscoring his impact on the team's success this season.
