Justin Ishbia, co-owner of the Phoenix Suns, has decided to pivot from his interest in purchasing the Minnesota Twins to pursuing a controlling stake in the Chicago White Sox.

Recent reports confirm that Ishbia has abandoned his bid for the Twins, focusing instead on acquiring the White Sox, which are currently owned by Jerry Reinsdorf.

Currently, the White Sox are valued at approximately $2.05 billion, ranking as the 15th-most valuable franchise in Major League Baseball, while the Twins are valued at $1.46 billion, placing them 21st.

Ishbia's shift in focus has left the potential ownership group for the Twins stunned, prompting them to reevaluate their plans as all options regarding the Twins' sale are now on the table.

Ishbia already holds a small stake in the White Sox and aims to become the primary owner, potentially ending Reinsdorf's long-standing ownership that began in 1981.

While the sale of the Twins was not expected to finalize before the upcoming season, the vetting process had advanced sufficiently for a potential change in ownership.

There is a possibility that the Pohlad family may choose to retain ownership of the Twins, similar to decisions made by other MLB teams like the Angels and Nationals in recent years.

Ishbia and his brother Mat initially expressed interest in acquiring the Twins back in December 2024, following the Pohlad family's announcement to sell the team.
