Screen Queensland Boosts Indie Game Devs with $1.3M Investment, Sparking 133% Surge in Projects
October 20, 2024Screen Queensland has announced a substantial investment of $1.3 million in funding directed towards twelve indie studios in Queensland.
This initiative has resulted in a remarkable 133% increase in the number of supported projects, following a doubling of the funding level for the Games Grants program.
The Games Grants program offers grants up to $200,000 per round, with a maximum lifetime project cap of $300,000, supporting projects at all stages of development.
Jacqui Feeney, CEO of Screen Queensland, emphasized that this investment is enhancing confidence among local studios and driving innovation in game development.
Feeney highlighted that the funding is not only fostering creativity but also creating skilled technical jobs in the industry, as seen with Gameloft Brisbane's expansion to a team of 100 employees.
Currently, Gameloft Brisbane is working on 'Carmen Sandiego,' which will feature four distinct locations across Queensland.
Other notable projects receiving funding include 'Carrot Commotion,' 'Cozy Caravan,' 'Delverium,' 'Isopod: A Webbed Spin-off,' 'Slime Time,' 'Spellbound Shire,' and an unannounced project by Spitfire Interactive.
Additionally, the Digital Games Incentive has provided funding for projects such as 'Go-Go Town!' by Prideful Sloth and 'Vanguard Exiles' by The Tea Division.
The range of funded projects showcases a variety of games, including 'Unsettling Wellness' by Fuzzy Ghost and 'Blade of Backwater' by Saltpunk Studio.
