The GHIN app, which stands for Golf Handicap and Information Network, is evolving to provide more than just score computation for golfers.

Originally developed in 1980 through a collaboration between the Metropolitan Golf Association and the USGA, GHIN has undergone continuous modernization for over 40 years.

As of 2024, the GHIN mobile app has gained immense popularity, boasting over 2.5 million users who have posted more than 80 million scores since its launch in 2012.

The USGA plans to enhance GHIN by transforming it into an all-in-one golf companion, emphasizing user-friendly design, improved statistics, and engaging social features.

Future updates to the app are expected to simplify the user experience while gamifying golf, making it more enjoyable beyond traditional play.

Tom Padula, the USGA’s senior director of product for GHIN, emphasizes that the app's future is promising and encourages new users to join the existing user base.

The app plays a crucial role in managing golfers' Handicap Index®, which is essential for members of local Allied Golf Associations (AGA).
