Cognizant Classic Draws Top Golf Talent; Rising Star Clanton Aims for PGA Tour Card
February 19, 2025
Luke Clanton, a junior at Florida State and a resident of Hialeah, Florida, is competing on a sponsor exemption as he aims to secure his PGA Tour card, needing just one point to meet the 20 points required in the PGA Tour University Accelerated system.
Clanton recently participated in the WM Phoenix Open, where he narrowly missed making the cut, marking his third start on the PGA Tour this season after previously missing two cuts and finishing tied for 15th at the Farmers Insurance Open.
Currently ranked 93rd in the Official World Golf Ranking, Clanton had a promising previous year with two runner-up finishes at the RSM Classic and the John Deere Classic, along with two additional top-10 finishes.
Russell Henley, a past champion of the Cognizant Classic in 2014, is set to make his 11th appearance at the tournament.
Joining Clanton and Henley at the Cognizant Classic will be 17th-ranked Russell Henley, 21st-ranked Billy Horschel, and 22nd-ranked Sungjae Im, all of whom committed to the event on the same day.
Billy Horschel, who has been a familiar presence at PGA National since his college days at the University of Florida, has achieved five top-20 finishes in 12 prior starts, with his best result being a tie for fourth in 2017.
Sungjae Im, a former champion who won his first PGA Tour event at this venue in 2020, is also returning to compete.
The Cognizant Classic, scheduled to commence on February 27, 2025, at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, has attracted a strong field, including three top-25 players and the top amateur Luke Clanton.
