Arm has unveiled the Ethos-U85 neural processor, providing a quadrupled performance boost and 20% more power efficiency over its predecessor.

The Ethos-U85 supports advanced transformer networks and is slated for availability in 2025, ensuring forward compatibility with previous Ethos-U series NPUs.

Arm's release includes the Corstone-320 IoT Reference Design Platform, integrating the new NPU with Cortex-M85 CPU and Mali-C55 ISP for smart home and industrial applications.

The new technologies are targeted at enhancing AI and machine learning capabilities in embedded systems, catering to the increased market demand.

Early adoption and licensing agreements for the Ethos-U85 NPU are already in place with companies like Alif and Infineon.
