iPhone Plus Gains Ground as iPhone Mini Sales Plummet; Base Models Remain Top Choice
November 21, 2024Recent research by CIRP has analyzed the sales trends of iPhone models from the iPhone 13 to the iPhone 15, excluding the less frequently updated iPhone SE.
The introduction of the iPhone Plus has significantly impacted the sales landscape, leading to a notable decline in the market share of the iPhone mini, which dropped from 7% in 2022 to just 1% in 2023.
In 2023, the iPhone Plus captured an 11% market share, while the Pro model's share fell to 19% and the base model maintained a strong 43% share.
These findings indicate a consistent consumer preference for base models, which have ranked as the most popular iPhones sold from 2022 to 2024.
However, the market share of base models has seen a slight decrease, from 46% in 2022 to 42% in 2024, while Pro Max models have remained stable at 25-26%.
Apple continues to launch four new iPhone models each year, including base, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max versions, yet the Plus models have struggled to gain significant popularity.
Looking ahead, the upcoming iPhone 16 is anticipated to be a significant upgrade, which may lead to an increase in market share for the base model when 2025 sales data is released.
Speculation about future iPhones suggests that Apple may consider replacing the Plus versions with a new Air or Slim iteration, reflecting ongoing shifts in consumer preferences.
